ABS is a polymer composed of three monomers, acrylonitrile Acrylonitrile (23~41%), butadiene Butadiene (10~30%) and styrene Styrene (29~60%). The English name is Acrylonitrile-Butadiene- Styrene, referred to as ABS.
The general ratio of the three monomers in the ABS copolymer is 20:30:50. As long as the ratio of the three, the polymerization method, and the size of the particles are changed, a series of ABS varieties with different impact strength and flow characteristics can be produced. For example, increasing the content of butadiene components can improve the impact strength of ABS, but the hardness and fluidity will be reduced, and the strength and heat resistance will be deteriorated. If the content of butadiene in ABS reaches more than 50%, it is called high rubber powder, which is often used for toughening and modification of ABS and PC/ABS.
ABS was originally developed on the basis of PS modification. Due to its unique advantages of toughness, rigidity and hardness, its dosage is equivalent to PS, and its application range has far exceeded PS, so it has become a plastic variety independent of PS. In the early days, ABS was classified as engineering plastics, but with its rapid development, the output soon approached its parent PS, so it was classified as general-purpose plastics since 2000, becoming the fifth largest general-purpose plastics.
