Material properties of ABS plastic
1.Conventional performance
ABS plastic is non-toxic, tasteless, with ivory-colored translucent appearance, or transparent granules or powder. Density is 1.05~1.18g/㎝3, shrinkage is 0.4%~0.9%, modulus of elasticity is 2Gpa, Poisson’s ratio is 0.394, hygroscopicity is <1%, melting temperature is 217~237℃, thermal decomposition temperature is >250℃.
2.Mechanical properties
ABS has excellent mechanical properties, its impact strength is excellent, can be used at very low temperatures; plastic ABS has excellent wear resistance, good dimensional stability, and oil resistance, can be used for medium load and low speed bearings. ABS creep resistance is greater than PSF and PC, but smaller than PA and POM.
3.Thermal performance
The heat deflection temperature of ABS is 93~118℃, and the product can be increased by about 10℃ after annealing treatment.
4.Electrical properties
Plastic ABS has good electrical insulation and is virtually unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency, and can be used in most environments.
5.Environmental performance
Plastic ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis and a variety of acids, but can be dissolved in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons, erosion by ice acetic acid, vegetable oil, etc. will produce stress cracking. ABS has poor weather resistance, easy to produce degradation under the action of ultraviolet light; after six months outdoors, the impact strength is reduced by half.
