研究发现，含有甲基苯乙烯的ABS和橡胶含量较低的ABS在热循环试验中表现最好，且具有较低的热膨胀系数。高橡胶含量ABS的热循环试验结果不好，但剥离附着力和热膨胀系数高，易腐蚀，镀层的力学性能较好

The ABS surface needs to be etched before electroplating, and the oxidized grafted rubber makes it preferentially attacked to increase the adhesion between the electroplated layer and the ABS surface. The structure of ABS has a great influence on adhesion, including rubber content, rubber particle size, composition and stress level of the copolymer oriented near the surface. Increasing the rubber content, particle size, and acrylonitrile content can improve the bond strength between ABS and the coating.

Studies have found that ABS with methyl styrene and ABS with low rubber content perform best in thermal cycling tests and have a lower coefficient of thermal expansion. The thermal cycle test results of ABS with high rubber content are not good, but the peel adhesion and thermal expansion coefficient are high, easy to be etched, and the mechanical properties of the electroplating layer are better.
