PMMA具有以下特点。　　

（1）优异的光学性能，透光率是所有塑料中最高的，能穿透99%以上的阳光，比普通玻璃高出10%以上。　

（2）优良的耐候性，即使在热带气候下暴露多年，其透明度和颜色变化也非常小。　　

（3）具有较高的室温机械强度和较高的弹性模量（弯曲弹性模量3000-4000MPa）。　　

（4）双折射很小（约20nm，而PC约60nm）。　　

（5）冲击强度不太高，悬臂梁的冲击强度仅为2J/m，折射率与PMMA相似的丙烯酸酯橡胶颗粒形成的聚合物合金分散在PMM中（6）均聚PMMA的热变形温度低，不能满足特殊用途。当使用共聚物时，热偏转温度可提高10-20℃。　　

（7）表面硬度低（铅笔硬度约为2H）。经过热固化或UV固化的硬质涂层表面硬化处理后，铅笔硬度可达4-6H。　　

（8）耐溶剂性不是很好，但很容易上漆和粘合。

PMMA has the following characteristics. 　　

(1)Excellent optical performance, light transmittance is the highest of all plastics, can penetrate more than 99% of the sunlight, more than 10% higher than ordinary glass. 　

(2)Excellent weather resistance, even in tropical climate exposure for many years, its transparency and color changes are extremely small. 　　

(3)It has high mechanical strength at room temperature and high elastic modulus (flexural elastic modulus 3000-4000MPa). 　　

(4)The birefringence is small (about 20nm, while the PC is about 60nm). 　　

(5)The impact strength is not too high, the impact strength of the cantilever beam is only 2J/m, and the polymer alloy formed by the acrylate rubber particles with a refractive index similar to the PMMA is dispersed in the PMM

(6)The heat distortion temperature of homopolymer PMMA is low and cannot meet special purposes. When copolymers are used, the heat deflection temperature can be increased by 10-20 °C. 　　

(7)The surface hardness is low (the pencil hardness is about 2H). After using heat-curing or UV-cured hard coating surface hardening treatment, the pencil hardness can reach 4-6H. 　　

(8)Solvent resistance is not very good, but it is easy to paint and bond. 　　

(9) The maximum water absorption rate is about 2%, which is a problem when used for precision applications.
