Polyetherimide is an amorphous high-performance thermoplastic resin, introduced by GE Plastics in 1982 and registered under the name Ultem. This material has high strength and high stiffness at high temperatures, long-term heat resistance, in addition to high dimensional stability and electrical properties, and a wide range of chemical resistance and workability. The color of the unmodified polyetherimide material is a transparent rock color. It also exhibits inherent flame retardancy and produces less smoke without adding additives.

PEI resin has excellent electrical properties and can remain stable under a wide range of environmental conditions. Coupled with thermal and mechanical properties, PEI resins are ideal for demanding electronic and electrical applications.
