It has superior impact resistance and solubility than nylon 66 plastic, but it also has a higher hygroscopicity. A number of modifiers are frequently added to nylon 6 in order to improve its mechanical qualities.

The most frequent component is glass, with synthetic rubbers like EPDM and SBR being added to improve impact resistance. The shrinkage of nylon 6 plastic raw materials is between 1% and 1.5 percent for products without additions. Shrinkage is reduced to 0.3 percent when glass fiber additives are added (but slightly higher in the direction perpendicular to the process).
