Heat-resistant, impact-resistant, flame-retardant, and have good mechanical properties at ordinary use temperatures. Compared with the properties close to polymethyl methacrylate, polycarbonate has good impact resistance, high refractive index, good processability, and has UL94 V-0 flame retardant performance without additives. However, polymethyl methacrylate is relatively cheap compared to polycarbonate, and large-scale devices can be produced by bulk polymerization. With the increasing scale of polycarbonate production, the price difference between polycarbonate and polymethyl methacrylate is shrinking. Polycarbonate has poor abrasion resistance. Some polycarbonate devices for wear-prone applications require special surface preparation.
